Membership
The BCI began its activities with the
following assets: two office tables, two chairs, a cabinet, a telephone line, one desk top
computer and one lap top, all belonging to the founders.
As a bank account, the founders made a
donation to the Institute to purchase stationery and to cover filing fees & legal
expenses.
We are registered under the Brazilian
law as a not for profit non-governmental organization.

Mission:
Build awareness of
coastal water management and marine environment.
Promote a maritime
consciouness.
Facilitate and
implement state of the art projects favouring social and cultural actions integrated with
educational programmes related to the coastal waters and the marine environment.
Popularize scientific
and academic works related to the coastal waters and the marine environment.
Promote responsible
amateur sports and leisure activities in the coastal zone and the sea.
Promote the idea of
sustainability related to the coastal waters and the maritime envirnment.
Promote workshops and
training programmes related to the coastal waters and the marine environment.
Use the Internet as a
media for networking and to promote cooperative programmes at the national and
international level.
Goals
for 2009:
1º - Our main goal for
2009 is make a dream to come true, that is:
Exhibit the Dinghy
Peazê in the Wooden Boat Festival, Port Townsend, USA, 11-13 September:
It will be the first

2º - Projects
Implementation:
1 - A workshop entitled
"The Sea: I Use It, I Manage it, I Enjoy It - a solidary reponsibility"
which aims to promote the awareness of the marine environment as a whole, its integrated
management and its multiple functions related to the human and physical aspects. The
target paticipants for this workshop are university students and junior highschool
students. There will have appropriate adaptation of content for each of these tagets.
2 - Scholarships:
we approach universities from the Brazilian coastal states and abroad to obtain
scholarships for selected students. These students are monitored by the BCI and must
achieve a high level performance and develop a project related to the objectives of the
BCI.
3 - Lighthouses
of Brazil - an interactive the coastal zone programme: consists of providing the
general public with the aid of universities students engaged on social projects with a
"ready to fill in fact sheet" and an usage guide in order to report facts and
events related to the coastline. The Brazilian coastaline will be demarcated by its
lighthouses along the coast and their historic and nostalgic importance will be used to
"light up" the general public´s maritime awareness.
3º - Achieve four
figure increase in associated members; four figure dollar amount as a monthly income
through donations and/or subscription fees; international recognition by enhancing
relationships with the institutions listed on our "International Collaborative
Programmes" on this web site. |
